Sun, sea, smiles

My girlfriends and I recently came back from our trip to the Bulgarian Black Sea coast.

We stayed in Burgas, the second largest city on the coast which is just as charming as any small town.

The trip from the capital took about 4 hours which we spent listening to various music. We sang to the sound of ABBA evergreens, girly pop songs, Aerosmith tunes and even some Marilyn Manson hits.

The car was full up to the roof (this is not an overstatement) and we were even forced to balance one of the suitcases between us on the back seat.

When we arrived we went straight to the beach to work on our tan. Having spent the last 7 months in the UK, I had a hard time keeping up to my girlfriends’ progress on that matter.

We sustained ourselves on melon smoothies and ice coffees from the bar. Most of our lunches were substituted by a portion of italian gelato (our favourites included sacher, cheesecake and coconut flavours).

In the end of the day we would chill out in a hammock when the heat subsided and the beach was almost empty.

After dinner we would normally get ready for a night out. I have to admit that my favourite look was a tad retro for the pop music in the beach bar but I just couldn’t refrain from adding a few romantic waves to my bangs.

I’m proud to say that I managed to stick to my healthy routine. I had a low-fat yoghurt with a spoonful of oat bran and a heap of blueberries topped off with some honey for breakfast.

I’d also like to think that we were quite active (okay, maybe just above-average-active) as we regularly went on walks to the Burgas Key and Marina just under half a mile down the beach where there were some pretty picturesque rocks.

We also enjoyed a few romantic sunsets.

And ran wild with the wind…

We took a couple selfies (more like a hundred altogether)

And we even went on an island adventure to Saint Anastasia, just a half hour boat ride away from Burgas.

Once on the island, we enjoyed fresh mussels and some locally produced caviar.

We finished off with the girliest photo shoot humanly possible, but it was tons of fun!

Before we set off, we stopped by the sand art exhibition in Burgas to check out this year’s sand sculptures themed ‘Fairy tales’.

All in all, it was a magical end to the summer.
